The rooms are affordable and you can get to know other students quickly. The \u201c<strong>Find student hall<\/strong>\u00a0\u201d option\u00a0on the Study in Germany website will assist you in the process of looking for a hall of residence in the area of\u00a0your preferred\u00a0university. Additionally,\u00a0DAAD\u00a0provides comprehensive information on\u00a0<strong>applying for a hall of residence<\/strong>(External link)\u00a0. You will find the addresses of student support services on the website of\u00a0<strong>Deutsches Studierendenwerk<\/strong>\u00a0. The\u00a0<strong>International Office<\/strong>\u00a0at your university will also help you with your search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will find more information on finding accommodation in Germany in the &#8220;<strong>Living in Germany<\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Registering your place of residence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every time you move houses in Germany, you need to register your new address at the Residents&#8217;\u00a0Registration Office. You have two weeks to do so, once you have found accommodation. You can also register your new address at the Citizens&#8217; Registration Office (B\u00fcrgeramt). The address of the Residents\u2019 Registration Office or the Citizens&#8217; Registration Office can be obtained from the\u00a0International Office of your university. The International Offices&#8217; addresses can be found on the\u00a0DAAD\u00a0website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opening a German bank account for students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to make payments\u00a0(such as paying rent)\u00a0quickly and easily, you need a bank account. You should therefore open a\u00a0<strong>current account<\/strong>\u00a0with a bank in Germany as soon as possible. Most institutions offer an account of this sort free of charge for students.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will find more information, for example what documents you require in order to open an account, in the &#8220;Living in Germany&#8221;\u00a0section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing for enrolment at university<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have you been accepted into a course of study? Please bear in mind that you cannot use the university&#8217;s facilities,&nbsp;such as the library, until you have enrolled. You&nbsp;generally have to show up in person in order to enrol at your university. Make a careful note of the deadline and ensure that you enrol in good time. All the relevant information can be found in your letter of admission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applying for a student residence title<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you come to Germany from a country outside the EU\/EEA\u00a0for the purpose of studying, you will need a\u00a0residence permit\u00a0to\u00a0stay\u00a0\u2013\u00a0even if you did not need a\u00a0visa\u00a0to enter the country. For this reason,\u00a0you must register with your local\u00a0foreigners authority\u00a0within three months of entering the country. Ideally, you should consult the International Office\u00a0at your university to find out which authority is responsible for your matters.
